Farming

The South African sugar industry consistently ranks in the top 15 out of approximately 120 sugar-producing countries worldwide. With the two provinces as sugar producers (namely Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal), the sugar industry as a whole makes a positive difference to the lives of more than a million people and is a catalyst to economic growth and development for our country and its future. It is a diverse industry, combining the agricultural activities of sugarcane cultivation with the manufacture of raw and refined sugar, syrups, specialised sugar by-products and co-products. In line with developments in the global sugar sector, it has the potential to be a producer of:
  • Renewable energy
  • Bio-fuels
  • Bio-plastics
The Royal Shaka Property Group’s sugar operations are largely within the rural areas and surrounding towns of the KwaDukuza Municipality, qualifying as a feeder to local employment and economic opportunities in this area.
